The Club was organized in 1976 (hence its name) as a non-profit organization for the enjoyment of ballroom dancing and the recreation it provides.
Vivian Way's husband, Bob, a DJ, was the motivation behind the initial formation; however, many other devotees to the ballroom dance style helped kick off the Club. It has now been in existence without interruption for more than 28 years.
At first dances were held in basements, patios and poolsides of member's homes – wherever room could be found.
Themes have not changed much over the years. In reviewing the minutes of a 1983 Steering Committee meeting, the themes were much as they are now: Remembering the Big Band Era, Sounds of the Big Band Era, Country Western, Harvest Ball and, yes, even The Roaring 20's.
